Where do prosecutors with disabilities work?

  • In the Office of the General Prosecutor, there are 66 such employees, 26 of whom are prosecutors.
  • In the anti-corruption prosecutor's office, there are only three, two of whom are prosecutors.
  • However, in regional and district prosecutor's offices, the numbers are significant: 762 employees with disabilities, 496 of whom are prosecutors.

Every fifth prosecutor's office employee receives pension payments, but this is not always related to disability. Prosecutors can retire after 25 years of service, even without the status of a person with disabilities.

What’s the commotion about?

It all started after a scandal in the Khmelnytskyi region. The chairperson of the local medical and social commission, Tatyana Krupa, suspected of illegal enrichment, assisted in obtaining second-group disability status for 49 employees of the regional prosecutor's office, including the regional prosecutor Alexey Oleynik himself.

After an investigation, it was found that 74% of prosecutors with disabilities received their certificates before 2022. However, questions remain: how many of these certificates are legitimate and are there any abuses here?

Interesting fact: among the first deputies and deputy heads of regional prosecutor's offices, eight individuals have disability status, but none of the heads have declared such status.

For now, the situation remains under close scrutiny, and the reputation of the prosecutor's office system is once again at the center of disputes.
