Scientists captured the moment when polar bear cubs leave their den for the first time.

Researchers from the non-profit organization Polar Bears International, the San Diego Zoo, the Norwegian Polar Institute, and the University of Toronto captured the intricate process of the first emergence of polar bear cubs from their den on the Svalbard archipelago in Norway.

Female polar bears typically give birth to cubs in December and remain in their dens with the newborns for several months. Since the dens are located in remote areas, studying the cubs when they first emerge in early spring poses a significant challenge for researchers. However, in this case, specialists utilized remote cameras and GPS collars, which allowed them to observe the animals without disturbing them.
