On October 31, Chinese industrial firms China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. (CRCHI) and China Railway 14th Bureau Group Co., Ltd. unveiled the largest tunnel boring machine in China. This impressive machine was manufactured in Changsha, Hunan Province.

The length of the machine is 145 meters, its weight is approximately 5000 tons, and the diameter of the cutter is equivalent to that of a five- or six-story building. According to Zhao Huai, the head of CRCHI, this development represents a significant achievement in the industrialization of large-diameter tunnel boring technology.
The tunnel boring machine is being utilized in a large-scale project for constructing tunnels under the Yangtze River to establish a major cross-river road network between Nantong and Taizhou in Jiangsu Province.
