China will conduct tests for building a lunar base using blocks made from lunar soil.

On November 16, the cargo spacecraft "Tianzhou-8" successfully docked with the "Tiangong" space station, delivering prototypes of modules made from various Earth-sourced materials, including basalt, designed to mimic the properties of lunar soil.

As part of a new experiment, taikonauts aboard the "Tiangong" will attempt to assess how these building materials withstand the extreme conditions of space (radiation, temperature fluctuations, and lunar earthquakes), with the aim of potentially using them to establish a base on Earth's natural satellite in the future.

The prototypes of the blocks were created by scientists from Wuhan University after analyzing soil brought back by the Chinese probe "Chang'e-5." According to the experts, the resulting blocks are three times stronger than standard bricks and can be connected without the use of any binding agents.

The experiment will last for three years, with annual returns of samples for analysis.
