Comet C/2024 S1 "disintegrated" as it approached the Sun.

The comet C/2024 S1 (ATLAS) has ceased to exist: on October 28, the celestial object literally disintegrated as it approached the Sun. The Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) captured footage of this event while monitoring our star.

The SOHO images show how the comet's nucleus fragmented, resulting in a gas outburst that temporarily enhanced its brightness.

Now, C/2024 S1 (ATLAS) has turned into a cluster of debris.
