Engineers also gathered insights on areas of the X-66 design that can be further improved to reduce drag, enhance fuel efficiency, or adjust the aircraft's shape for better flight performance.

The experimental aircraft of the X-66 project, developed to assist U.S. aviation in achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions, features a wingspan that is approximately 50% greater than that of a conventional airliner. This ultra-long wing can significantly decrease fuel consumption and set new standards for passenger aircraft.

Ground and flight testing of the X-66 is expected to commence in 2028.
