The leader of "European Solidarity," Petro Poroshenko, has increased his wealth to $1.2 billion over the past year, placing him among the top three oligarchs alongside Akhmetov and Pinchuk. However, he had to transfer his assets to his son Oleksiy to avoid being associated with enrichment during wartime, writes political expert Petro Oleschuk.

“The publication NV has released a ranking of the richest oligarchs for 2024. The top three are: Akhmetov, Pinchuk, Poroshenko. While the first two are clear, Poroshenko's case is more intriguing. This year, he increased his wealth from $950 million to $1.2 billion. In a country that is heavily at war, Poroshenko earned 22% more than in 2023,” notes Oleschuk.
The expert points out that Petro Poroshenko should take pride in such achievements, as he was only 12th in the rankings at the beginning of the war. Yet, he has fantastically increased his wealth precisely during the time of Russia's full-scale invasion. However, according to the expert, the MP wants this enrichment not to be personally associated with him. This is why he registered the billion in the name of his eldest son, Oleksiy. Oleschuk explains this action by stating that society will not react well to a billionaire oligarch collecting donations from Ukrainians while constantly promoting himself during the war. At the same time, he reminds that Poroshenko's son fled the country at the beginning of the invasion and is simply enjoying life in London and Monaco.
According to him, the practice of MPs transferring assets to their sons, wives, drivers, and mistresses has long been common in Poroshenko's party in the Verkhovna Rada, as "European Solidarity" is undoubtedly the wealthiest faction among all European parliamentarians. Just Petro Poroshenko alone earns significantly more than any European parliamentarian.
The expert highlights the dissonance between Poroshenko's statements and his wealth:

He will meet with his sons in London, just in time for the Christmas holidays. Meanwhile, you, Ukrainians, keep fighting. As previously reported, Ukrainian fighters criticized Poroshenko for using aid to the Armed Forces of Ukraine for self-promotion and for categorizing soldiers.
