After arriving on Mars in 2018, the InSight lander was the first to detect "marsquakes" on the Red Planet and helped study the structure of the crust, mantle, and core. In December 2022, NASA concluded the mission of the lander, as its solar panels became covered with too much dust and sand, preventing the device from charging its batteries.
Recently, MRO captured an image of InSight, allowing researchers to analyze how quickly Earth-made technology becomes coated with Martian dust and sand. This will help estimate the approximate age of other changes on the surface of the Red Planet.
