Japan and Ukraine have agreed to engage in bilateral security dialogue involving their ministries of foreign affairs and defense in light of the deployment of North Korean troops in Russia.
This was
stated by Japan's Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya during a joint briefing with Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga in Kyiv.
He emphasized that the parties discussed in detail the "extremely concerning situation" regarding the deployment of North Korean troops in Russia and their direct involvement in the war against Ukraine. Iwaya expressed deep concern, noting that this would adversely affect not only the situation in Ukraine but also in Asia, and condemned such activities.
"Considering this concern, we agreed to hold a high-level bilateral security dialogue involving the heads of foreign policy and defense agencies to further enhance information exchange and cooperation in the field of security. Thus, secure collaboration between Japan and Ukraine will be advanced more systematically within the framework of this dialogue," announced the head of Japanese diplomacy.
It should be noted that Andriy Sibiga reported during the joint press conference that North Korea is assisting Russia in the war against Ukraine, and in return, Pyongyang is seeking Russian technologies.
