President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law allowing foreigners and stateless individuals to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine under contract in officer positions.
Evidence of this can be found on the legislative bill map
№12023 on the parliament's website.
The card indicates that on October 25, the law was returned to the Verkhovna Rada with the president's signature.
The Verkhovna Rada approved the bill "On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine Regarding the Procedure for Military Service by Contract for Foreigners and Stateless Persons in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Special Transport Service, and the National Guard of Ukraine" in its entirety on October 10.
Previously, foreigners were only allowed to serve in private and sergeant positions.
The explanatory note to the bill highlights that the need to improve legislation arose due to the complex operational situation along the combat line, which necessitates a significant increase in the personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations.
