Since the beginning of the full-scale war, only three large families of internally displaced persons have been able to secure housing in Kyiv. The reason is simple – the city does not allocate any funds for this purpose.
The Chairperson of the Council of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) under the Kyiv City State Administration, Olga Altunina, stated on the "Kyiv Hour" that there is not a single program in the capital aimed at providing housing for displaced persons. Moreover, neither last year nor this year has a single penny been allocated for this.
"Throughout all the years of the war, it seems that only three large families have been provided with housing. Last year, not a single penny was allocated, and this year, not a single penny has been allocated, and there is no specialized program concerning internally displaced persons," – said Olga.
The problem has been attempted to be addressed
The IDP Council developed a support program and met with deputies and officials. However, the administration responded that they do not see the necessity for this.
Without budgetary support, people who have lost their homes due to the war cannot expect help in finding housing. This is especially true for large families, who require special conditions.
Conclusion: As long as the city authorities do not change their stance, displaced persons are forced to search for housing on their own and can only rely on volunteers and charitable organizations.
