BepiColombo has sent back new images of Mercury.
On December 1st, the European-Japanese spacecraft BepiColombo conducted its fifth of six scheduled flybys of Mercury, passing within 48,000 kilometers of the surface of the planet closest to the Sun.

BepiColombo has for the first time utilized the Mercury Radiometer and Thermal Infrared Spectrometer (MERTIS), enabling the study of the planet's surface in the mid-infrared range. This will allow for the determination of the mineralogical composition of Mercury's surface layer.
