NASA specialists emphasized that “the likelihood of a collision is extremely low and there is no cause for concern.”
The asteroid 2024 YR4, discovered by astronomers in December 2024, has become the most hazardous celestial body in the history of NASA's Center for Near Earth Object Studies (CNEOS).
Despite a significant reduction in collision risk, 2024 YR4 remains at the top of the CNEOS risk table. The next most hazardous "space rock" is 1950 DA, with a collision probability with Earth in the year 2880 estimated at 0.039%.
