How tall will Jeddah Tower be?
The final height has not yet been announced, but it is expected that the skyscraper will reach at least 1001 meters. This will make it the first building in the world to stand a kilometer tall.
In terms of height, Jeddah Tower will surpass the current tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai (UAE), by at least 173 meters. Although the total number of floors has not been confirmed, it is estimated to be between 167 and 252.
Who is designing Jeddah Tower?
The project was inspired by Chicago architect Adrian Smith, who also designed the Burj Khalifa.
What will Jeddah Tower look like?
The Jeddah Tower will feature a conical, three-sided silhouette made of reinforced concrete and steel, covered in glass. Its tapering shape is designed to reduce wind load on the structure.
According to Smith, the three-pronged shape will resemble palm leaves. Another notable feature is expected to be a cantilevered steel balcony with a diameter of 30 meters, which will extend from the penthouse at a height of about 600 meters.
What will be inside Jeddah Tower?
The skyscraper will house residential apartments and offices, an observation deck, and a Four Seasons hotel.
Another key element of the completed building will be its elevator system. It is expected that there will be 56 elevators in the building, moving at a speed of 12 meters per second. Three lobbies will facilitate transitions between elevators serving different parts of the tower.
What stage is Jeddah Tower's construction at now?
As of January 2025, 63 floors are completed, and the height of Jeddah Tower exceeds 250 meters.
Why is the construction of Jeddah Tower taking so long?
The project has faced delays for several reasons, including financial issues, the coronavirus pandemic, and technical challenges related to, for example, weak soil structure.
However, the biggest obstacle was the removal of the contractor, Binladin Group, from the project. This occurred due to the arrest of its owner, Bakr bin Laden, during corruption purges in Saudi Arabia in 2017, the economic ramifications of which also hindered the skyscraper's construction.
When will Jeddah Tower be completed?
By August 2025, the tower is expected to reach its 100th floor, and by October 2026, the circular observation deck on the 160th floor will be completed.
The construction of the skyscraper is set to be finished by March 2028.
