The risk of asteroid 2024 YR4 colliding with Earth has significantly increased.

NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) experts have increased the likelihood of asteroid 2024 YR4 colliding with Earth in 2032 by 50% compared to earlier estimates. The current probability stands at 3.1%, which translates to approximately 1 in 32.
Риск столкновения астероида 2024 YR4 с Землёй значительно увеличился.

The asteroid 2024 YR4, discovered by astronomers in December 2024, has become the first celestial body in many years with a non-zero probability of impacting Earth. A collision with this space rock, which measures between 40 and 90 meters, could occur on December 22, 2032.

In March 2025, the James Webb Space Telescope will be able to observe 2024 YR4 to gather data on the asteroid's composition and determine whether it can survive the Earth's atmosphere without disintegrating.
