Satellites revealed that the U.S. has refurbished a World War II base for potential combat operations in the Pacific.
A series of satellite images captured by Planet Labs from December 3, 2023, to January 29, 2025, vividly illustrates the extent of restoration work on approximately 20,000 square meters of World War II-era runways and other infrastructure on Tinian Island, located in the western Pacific Ocean.

The airfield on Tinian Island was originally constructed to accommodate B-29 bombers, which carried out raids on Imperial Japan, including the delivery of atomic bombs dropped on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Currently, the U.S. military has renovated the airfield and other infrastructure to establish a critical logistics hub for a potential confrontation with China in the Pacific Ocean.
