For the first time, taikonauts have produced oxygen in space.

The crew of the "Shenzhou-19" expedition, currently aboard the Chinese space station "Tianhe," has successfully completed experiments on oxygen production through artificial photosynthesis.
Тайконавты впервые добыли кислород в космосе.

The taikonauts conducted 12 experiments inside a box-shaped device utilizing semiconductor catalysts to convert carbon dioxide and water into oxygen while simultaneously producing ethylene—a hydrocarbon that can be used for fuel production in spacecraft. This method is based on mimicking the natural process of photosynthesis in plants, but with the application of physical and chemical technologies.

This new achievement marks a significant step toward the realization of a crewed lunar landing planned by China for 2030.

Interestingly, last year, the crew of "Shenzhou-19" also made headlines by setting a record for the longest spacewalk in history.
