The Parker probe reached a record speed of 190 kilometers per second.

According to NASA, the Parker Solar Probe, an automated spacecraft designed to study the outer corona of the Sun, will have passed through the upper layer of the solar atmosphere (the solar corona) by the end of December 2024, reaching a maximum speed of 686,722 kilometers per hour, or 190.7 kilometers per second. This achievement solidifies its title as the fastest human-made object ever created.

Furthermore, the spacecraft approached our star at the closest distance ever recorded: it was just 6,167,525 kilometers from the surface of the sun.

In the near future, researchers on Earth will receive a vast amount of data collected by the probe during its flyby of the solar atmosphere. According to the mission plan, the probe will pass by the Sun two more times in March and June 2025, but it will not set any new records.
