The information came from former psychological support officer Timofey Ostafiychuk, who was serving in the brigade at the time and conducted an internal investigation.
Ostafiychuk revealed that soldiers were required to pay between 5,000 and 20,000 hryvnias for alcohol violations, and those who did not pay faced beatings. He stated that this was happening under the supervision of the chief of staff's son Valeriy Pastukh and the godson of the brigade commander Oleh Poberezhnyuk – senior lieutenant Vladislav Pastukh.

When the officers climbed to the attic where the soldier was hiding, they were met with a shocking sight.
The man was emaciated, thin, and drunk, cowering in a corner and refusing to speak for a long time. He then began to scream that he would not return to the unit, fearing he would be killed there if he did not hand over money to the chief of staff – Vladislav Pastukh.
Moreover, soldiers were threatened with being transferred to the infantry, where they were allegedly "thrown to the meat" to extort money. In some cases, according to UП, the junior Pastukh set up a "cell" – a place where undressed soldiers were held to extort money for their discharge.
After the information about the mistreatment became known, Pastukh was transferred to another unit, and the prosecutor's office launched an investigation. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also sent a commission to check these abuses, and the brigade commander was suspended from duty during the investigation.
