NGC 2566 is considered one of the nearby galaxies to the Milky Way, making it a target for studying the relationships between stars, gas, and dust in star-forming galaxies. Interestingly, NGC 2566 is just one of 55 galaxies examined by the telescope as part of this scientific program.
The "James Webb" captured NGC 2566 using two of its main scientific instruments: the Near Infrared Camera (NIRCam) and the Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI). The new image allows for a clear view of the well-defined spiral arms, a long bar that runs through the center, and a delicate trail of gas, dust, and stars.
