During an interview at the World Economic Summit, Semafor asked Nelson about a report from the Wall Street Journal, which stated that Musk had been in regular contact with Putin over the past two years. Specifically, the president allegedly requested the billionaire not to activate Starlink in Taiwan, as Russia was seeking support from China.
“I don’t know if this story is true, but I think it deserves investigation,” Nelson stated.
The NASA administrator also emphasized that if Musk indeed communicated with Putin, this situation raises concerns for the space agency, the Department of Defense, and U.S. intelligence agencies.
Previously, Nelson often noted that he does not conduct business related to SpaceX directly with Musk, but instead communicates with the company’s president and COO, Gwynne Shotwell, who, in the official's view, deserves all the credit for SpaceX's success.
