The Hubble Space Telescope captured the aftermath of a thermonuclear explosion on a white dwarf star.

Astronomers from the European Space Agency (ESA) have released a new image of space showcasing a distant galaxy that experienced one of the most powerful and destructive events in the universe—a supernova explosion. This stunning photograph was captured by the Hubble Space Telescope.

The "Hubble" captured a distant galaxy located approximately 600 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Gemini, after the supernova SN 2022aajn was discovered within it.

SN 2022aajn is a Type Ia supernova, which occurs as a result of a thermonuclear explosion of a white dwarf. Such events typically happen due to the absorption of material from a companion star or the merging with another object.
