Teams of engineers from the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST) and the Shanghai Academy of Space Technology (SAST), which are part of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), have been selected to develop prototypes of lunar rovers for taikonauts.
According to the technical specifications of the competition, the weight of the lunar rover must not exceed 200 kilograms, and the travel range will be limited to 10 kilometers.
China plans to land taikonauts on the Moon by 2030, with necessary preparatory work already underway.
According to Lin Siciang, deputy head of the Manned Space Program Office, prototypes are currently being produced in China, along with ground testing of the "Chang Zheng-10" rocket, the "Shenzhou" spacecraft, the "Lan Yue" lunar module, and spacesuits for the Moon.
