The Chinese company Chang Guang Satellite Technology, which owns the satellite constellation "Jilin-1," reported that it has achieved a data transmission speed of 100 gigabits per second. This is ten times faster than the previous record.
The transmission was conducted between a mobile ground station installed on a truck and one of the 117 satellites in low Earth orbit.
Previously, Starlink showcased the capabilities of its laser inter-satellite communication system, but has yet to deploy laser satellite-ground communication, while China has already begun its rollout.
Chang Guang Satellite Technology has developed a compact communication laser terminal, roughly the size of a backpack, capable of transmitting data both between satellites and back to Earth.
This achievement by China could lay the foundation for future technologies such as 6G, next-generation satellite positioning systems, and ultra-high-resolution remote sensing.
