SpaceX plans to reduce the altitude of its satellites from 525, 530, and 535 kilometers to 480, 485, and 475 kilometers, respectively, while maintaining the total number of second-generation satellites at approximately 29,988 units.
As of now, the FCC has approved 7,500 second-generation satellites. FCC officials have not yet responded to inquiries; however, it is already known that the satellites will undergo upgrades. This will include enhanced equipment with a higher signal gain and more advanced digital communication processing technologies.
In light of this news, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk stated that the next-generation Starlink satellites will be so large that only Starship will be able to launch them. The new satellites will allow for a tenfold increase in capacity.
