The All-Russian Award "For Fidelity to Science" is presented annually for the promotion of science and the enhancement of its prestige. The organizer is the Ministry of Education and Science, supported by the Russian Academy of Sciences, the National Research Center "Kurchatov Institute," and Moscow State University. The award has been in existence since 2015 and is currently the largest in the Russian science popularization arena. This week, the shortlist for 2024 was published.

Naked Science made it onto the list three times. In the category "Author of Digital Content," our publisher Ruslan Zorab was recognized. In the category "Special Prize Named After Christofor Ledentsov," the publication was nominated in two subcategories: "Special Prize for the Promotion of the Nuclear Industry" (for the material "On the Edge of the Possible: Technologies Defining the Future") and "Special Prize for the Promotion of the Gas Industry" (for the material "The Cosmos Underfoot").

Christofor Ledentsov was a Russian merchant of the first guild who, after his death in 1907, bequeathed his personal fortune to the Ledentsov Society, which supported scientists and those who implemented their discoveries in practice. Although the funds from the bequest were greater than the Nobel Prize — from Nobel himself, the awards were less known because immediately after the victory of the Soviet regime, the fund was nationalized and subsequently liquidated. Consequently, the distribution of awards to scientists was halted. It was only revived in 2002.

“The award ‘For Fidelity to Science’ encourages journalists, bloggers, and popularizers who help enhance the prestige of the scientific profession and attract new talent for our country's technological leadership. This year, over 1,800 applications were submitted from 80 regions of Russia — almost 1.5 times more than last year,” noted Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.

Winners will receive not only cash prizes but also special awards from the competition partners: a trip on a nuclear icebreaker, a visit to one of Russia's spaceports, a tour of one of the high-tech facilities of PAO Gazprom, as well as a tour of an aircraft manufacturing plant with the opportunity to try out the MC-21 pilot training simulator.

In 2021 and 2023, Naked Science also appeared on the shortlists for the "For Fidelity to Science" award. Notably, in 2023, in the category “Science – to the World”, the publication secured first place for its project Atomic Quiz in 11 languages (Global Atomic Quiz).
