NASA has released new images of a massive solar sail deployed in space.
In the spring of 2024, NASA launched the experimental satellite ACS3 into orbit, equipped with a next-generation solar sail.

The main tasks of ACS3 include:
- Testing composite masts made from flexible polymer and carbon fiber. They can expand from small structures into rigid and lightweight struts, each measuring seven meters in length;
- Orbit maneuvering using a solar sail. Its surface area is 80 square meters.
According to a statement from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the data collected during the tests has already proven to be quite valuable. Engineers noted that a slight bend in one of the four struts will not hinder the satellite's ability to perform maneuvers during the upcoming technology demonstration.
