NASA has decided not to cut funding for its space telescope missions for now.

In its budget proposal for the 2025 fiscal year, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) planned to reduce the operational budget for the Chandra X-ray Observatory by 40% and cut the budget for the Hubble Space Telescope by 10%.

The project immediately sparked discontent among researchers, who believed that budget cuts would lead to the decommissioning of "Chandra".

According to the latest data, NASA will refrain from reducing expenses for the operation of these two major space observatories until after the U.S. presidential elections and the agency receives final appropriations for the 2025 fiscal year.

It seems that NASA is reluctant to spend its already limited funds on aging observatories, waiting for the launch of the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope and aiming to develop new instruments.
