Countries that will endure the aftermath of a global nuclear war have been identified.

New Zealand researchers have simulated the potential aftermath of a global nuclear war between Russia and NATO countries. Their findings indicate that such a conflict could release 150 teragrams of soot into the Earth's atmosphere. This would trigger a nuclear winter, resulting in an 80% reduction in agricultural production over several years, with the Northern Hemisphere facing nearly a complete halt at around 100%.

As noted by the staff at the University of Otago, even in the event of such a nuclear war, there will be five countries that can withstand the aftermath of the conflict, including food shortages and widespread famine. Among them are states located on islands or peninsular territories, such as Iceland, New Zealand, Australia, the Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu.

Residents of these countries will survive because they will be able to maintain normal agricultural practices under conditions of reduced sunlight, the researchers stated.

The modeling results are published in the scientific journal Risk Analysis.
