Space One terminated the flight approximately three minutes after launch at an altitude of 100 kilometers when an anomaly was detected in the first stage rocket engines. KAIROS lost control and began to spin. Following this, the rocket was destroyed automatically for safety reasons. KAIROS was carrying five satellites developed by Japanese commercial companies, high school students, and a Taiwanese firm.
The KAIROS rocket, measuring 18 meters in length, is designed to deliver up to 250 kilograms of payload to low Earth orbit and up to 150 kilograms to a 500-kilometer sun-synchronous orbit.
In its first flight, KAIROS launched in March 2024, but it exploded almost immediately after takeoff.
