Recently, Tesla submitted an application for permission to double the size of its Gigafactory in Austin, Texas. The reason behind this expansion is the launch of new vehicle production.
The Tesla factory in Texas currently occupies over 465,000 square feet, but it will be expanded to twice that size to manufacture the robotaxi Cybercab, which is expected to debut in 2026.
Currently, the Texas factory produces the Model Y, the electric pickup truck Cybertruck, and batteries for it.
