The Audit Chamber reported that half of the U.S. Navy's amphibious ships are in poor condition.

Following the audit review, experts from the Audit Chamber concluded that half of the amphibious ships in the U.S. Navy are in poor condition and will not be able to serve their designated lifespan.

Without these ships, based in San Diego, Little Creek (Virginia), and Sasebo (Japan), it will be challenging for the Marines to conduct military operations.

The Government Accountability Office highlighted numerous issues that have affected the entire amphibious fleet of the U.S. Navy to varying degrees. These include maintenance delays, shortages of spare parts, inadequate oversight from contractors, and more.
