In a discussion with Y Combinator startup incubator director Garry Tan, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated that strong or general artificial intelligence (AGI) will be developed within the next calendar year.

When asked by Tan what to expect in 2025, the OpenAI leader promptly responded: “[The emergence of] general artificial intelligence.”

General artificial intelligence is a technology that, despite lacking foundational knowledge, will be able to perform tasks by applying cognitive abilities similar to or exceeding those of humans.

Previously, many experts suggested that at some point in the near future (possibly between 2025 and 2050), humanity will reach a point of technological singularity, when technological progress becomes uncontrollable and irreversible.
