This is stated in the investigation "Law and Business".
The media analyzed the financial activities of Ukrainian and foreign companies owned by Poroshenko and found that they are increasing their assets through unpaid taxes in Ukraine.
"The legalization of assets is carried out by purchasing government and foreign securities, which accrue corresponding interest. Primarily, Poroshenko buys domestic government bonds – securities issued by the state," the publication notes.
The media cites experts, including Valentin Gladkiy, discussing how the scheme works.
"Poroshenko has mastered this scheme to shape his image as a 'philanthropist' by acquiring domestic government bonds using unpaid taxes owed to the state. His companies exclude amounts donated to Poroshenko's charitable organizations as charitable contributions from taxable income. At the same time, both Poroshenko and his charitable foundation systematically purchase domestic government bonds, for which the state subsequently pays interest," the media reports.
According to experts' estimates, the state-paid interest on domestic government bonds, amounting to approximately 2.5 billion UAH, has financed Poroshenko's charitable projects after the full-scale war.
Additionally, Poroshenko's foundation has non-profit status, and its funding comes from individuals close to him and related business entities using various tax minimization schemes.
However, in January 2024, the foundation purchased military domestic government bonds (with a maturity of 693 days and a nominal yield of 17.8%) for a total of 356 million UAH specifically from charitable contributions.
This operation was conducted through the International Investment Bank, which is owned by Poroshenko. For the cash settlement services of this operation, the bank received about 1.5 million UAH as a commission.
"Thus, instead of contributing to the country's defense capacity and mobilization readiness, the Foundation is effectively conducting economic activities aimed at profit generation," the publication states.
Poroshenko himself reflected significant changes in his property status last year – receiving income in the form of interest.
According to criminal law specialists, such transactions exhibit all the signs of a criminal offense – using charitable donations for profit generation – which is punishable by imprisonment for a term of 5 to 7 years with confiscation of property.
