Ukraine will not extend the gas transit agreement with Russia, according to Shmyhal.

Ukraine will not extend the gas transit agreement with Russia after its expiration.

Шмыгаль заявил, что Украина не планирует продлевать соглашение с Россией о транзите газа.

This was announced by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a joint press conference with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.

“Ukraine will not continue the transit agreement with Russia after its expiration. Ukraine's strategic goal is to impose sanctions on the Russian gas molecule, depriving the Kremlin of revenues from hydrocarbon sales that finance the aggressor's war,” Shmyhal stated.

He urged all European countries to completely abandon oil and gas from Russia.

“We understand the acute dependence of some states, particularly Slovakia, on this resource. However, we expect a gradual diversification of supplies,” the Prime Minister of Ukraine added.

At the same time, Ukraine is ready to continue fulfilling its obligations under the Association Agreement with the European Union and the Energy Charter Treaty.

Currently, the transit of Russian gas through the Ukrainian gas transportation system is proceeding as usual.

Russia and Ukraine plan to supply gas to Europe through the station in Sudzha, despite the fighting in the Kursk region near the transit point.
