China has built the world's first commercial tanker designed for transporting liquefied carbon dioxide.
The world's first commercial tanker, Northern Pioneer, designed for transporting liquefied carbon dioxide (CO2), was constructed by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation.

The vessel, measuring 130 meters in length and 21.2 meters in width, will be capable of transporting 7,500 cubic meters of liquefied CO2.
The Northern Pioneer will support a large-scale Norwegian project for the commercial storage of liquefied CO2 on the seabed. It will transport CO2 emissions from European enterprises to a reception terminal on the west coast of Norway, where the CO2 will be processed and injected 2,600 meters below the seabed for permanent storage.
