China has constructed the world's largest shielded underwater tunnel.
China Railway 14th Bureau Group Co., Ltd. has utilized the world's largest tunnel boring machine to excavate a 3,290-meter underwater tunnel. With a diameter of 17 meters, this tunnel is the largest of its kind globally.

Among other records is the time taken for the construction of the tunnel: the underwater work was completed in just 110 days. This was achieved thanks to the "Shanhe" drilling rig, which stands about five stories tall and moves at a speed of 16 to 18 meters per day.
The new tunnel will be part of a crucial north-south route across the second longest river in China — the Yellow River. It will feature six lanes of traffic in both directions over two levels.
