Two fossils dating back approximately 800,000 to 1.1 million years were discovered in 1989 and 1990 in Hubei province. In 1994, paleoanthropologist Jia Lanpo named the fossils the Yunxian Man, after the location where they were found.
Analysis revealed that the skulls belonged to a male and female Yunxian Man, who died at ages ranging from 25 to 45 years.
Recently, researchers from the Hubei Provincial Museum, Shanxi University, the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wuhan University, and Beijing Union University reconstructed the faces of these fossil hominids using various modeling techniques.
