“Butusov travels around the front, collecting gossip and rumors, doing streams, and as always, lies. He claimed that there was a 'Headquarters meeting where they discussed the situation with the 155th brigade, and the President took everything under personal control.' But there was no Headquarters, this is easy to verify,” Mochanov notes.
According to him, he met Butusov during the broadcasts of a well-known political television talk show. Initially, they were opponents, as Butusov publicly criticized the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine without being informed about the situation at the front.
Therefore, Mochanov, who has been helping the front since 2014 and was among the defenders of Donetsk airport, took the journalist with him to the front lines in the summer of 2015 to show and explain the realities of the war in the east. After that, they co-hosted a series of programs about the military.
“Since then, my personal hell began. The horror that still haunts me from time to time. After all, the release of prisoners is definitely not about white clothes and books with glossy covers,” Mochanov characterizes this collaboration.

According to media reports, in the first two years of the full-scale war, Butusov did not update his information at the TCC. He first appeared at the TCC only the day after the law on mobilization was passed, which tightened the responsibility for violating military registration rules.
On the same day, he applied for a deferment as the father of three minor daughters. The deferment is valid until April 11, 2025, inclusive.
Earlier, according to media reports, Butusov had evaded mobilization, citing myopia due to being beaten by "Berkut" in December 2013.
In his publications, Butusov expresses outrage over the low level of mobilization, while he periodically travels to the war and takes photos in military uniform.
He also positively assessed the Minsk agreements, which ultimately led to the full-scale attack by the Russian Federation on Ukraine.
