The executive order signed by U.S. President Trump to suspend international aid for 90 days does not affect military assistance to Ukraine.
This was reported by the
Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, its head (CCD)
Aндрей Коваленко, and
Defence Express.
It is worth noting that U.S. President Donald Trump
decided to suspend all American foreign aid for 90 days.
The Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council emphasized that Trump's directive specifically pertains to international assistance related to "development programs," which involve the activities of UN agencies, peacekeeping initiatives, refugee support programs, and similar efforts.
In turn, Ukraine receives assistance from the U.S. through the Presidential Drawdown (PDA), Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), and Foreign Military Financing (FMF) programs.
"The U.S. president's directive does not apply to these programs," the CCD noted.
Defence Express also
explained that this does not concern all types of assistance.
In the
directive titled "Assessment and Reorganization of U.S. Foreign Aid," it is stated that all government departments and agencies responsible for U.S. development assistance programs must suspend new commitments and payments for 90 days.
U.S. development assistance programs are a distinct category of aid focused on supporting the economic, social, and political development of nations and societies. Assistance to Ukraine, in American governmental terminology, has been classified as security assistance.
"This means that formally, Trump's directive does not impact military aid to Ukraine. However, it could affect any other types of assistance, particularly that received by Ukraine through USAID, including for the restoration of damaged infrastructure," Defence Express noted.
Additionally, it is important to mention that on January 21, U.S. President Donald Trump
signed a directive to withdraw the U.S. from the World Health Organization (WHO).
On Monday, January 20, U.S. President Donald Trump
announced that his administration would impose a 25% tariff on imports from Mexico and Canada. The new rules will take effect on February 1.
