Brian A., the Deputy Secretary of State for the Western Hemisphere Affairs in the United States,
Nichols has officially confirmed that the White House has allowed Ukraine to use long-range weapons to strike targets within Russia.
This is reported by
Globo.
An official American representative emphasized that the conflict began with Russia's unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. According to him, it is Russia that controls how long this war will last, and the decision to end the conflict entirely depends on its actions.
"The war can end right now if Russia withdraws its troops from Ukraine and begins to respect its borders," Nichols stated.
In his opinion, providing Ukraine with additional defensive capabilities using long-range weapons approved by President Joe Biden could enhance its ability to protect its territories. Furthermore, this could send a signal to Russia about the futility of using force to seize Ukrainian land.
"If fortunate, this step may prompt the Russian Federation to realize that its actions are unsuccessful, encouraging it to either begin peace negotiations or simply withdraw its troops from Ukraine," Nichols added.
Let us remind you that the Ukrainian Defense Forces have, for the first time, struck Russian territory with ATACMS ballistic missiles, successfully hitting their target.
