Defense Minister Rustem Umerov has initiated an internal investigation at the Defense Procurement Agency.
His supervisor, Marina Bezrukova, will be temporarily suspended from her duties during the investigation.
This was reported to "Obshchestvennoe" by the press service of the AOZ.
Thus, during Bezrukova's suspension, the responsibilities of the head of the Defense Procurement Agency will be assigned to Arsen Zhumadilov, the head of the State Logistics Operator. "Obshchestvennoe," citing its own sources, notes that the official reason for the investigation is the procurement of weapons at inflated prices conducted on December 31, 2024. However, Bezrukova herself claimed that she was able to reduce or at least maintain average prices for critical munitions due to a decrease in the share for intermediaries.
Meanwhile, the head of the "Center for Combating Corruption," Vitaliy Shabunin, stated that the investigation in the AOZ began as early as January 24, and by January 25, notary Andrey Lihun had altered the information in the state register, indicating Zhumadilov as the head of the AOZ, although according to the Ministry of Defense's order, he is merely the acting head. Shabunin mentions that notary Lihun is a volunteer for the public organization "Union of Television and Film Industry," founded by the head of the President's Office, Andrey Yermak.
On January 24, Rustem Umerov, despite the Supervisory Board's decision to extend the contract with Marina Bezrukova, announced that he would not be renewing the agreement with the current head of the agency.
Umerov noted that instead of Bezrukova, Arsen Zhumadilov will be appointed as the director of the Defense Procurement Agency.
